Christian Counseling

an alternate method to secular counseling

Yet still the same goal

In general, regardless if I counsel from either a secular or Christian perspective, I have the same desire to help people identify their problems, create change, find meaning and joy in life and become healthier mentally, emotionally and physically. The main difference between the two, is when I counsel from a Christian perspective I incorporate Biblical truths in the process. A human being is made up of the mind, body and soul; therefore, when we go through trials in life we are affected not only mentally and emotionally but spiritually as well. Not everyone identifies with this however; but those who do will benefit greatly by integrating and strengthening their faith while navigating through the counseling process.

I have been doing Christian counseling now for over seven years. I have received a certificate in biblical counseling from the Christian Counseling Education Foundation (CCEF). I find that it is a great way to better serve those who identify with the Christian faith to process through their struggle and find meaningful ways of coping. If this is something that you feel you would like to pursue, please let me know when you contact me. I make it a high priority to respect my clients where they are at and I want to provide the most appropriate counseling method to each one of you.

I have listed below a few FAQ's on Christian counseling to help clarify this approach further. I have also provided some resources for those who would like to hear more on specific topics.

What is Christian Counseling?

"Christian counseling is a therapy focus area centering on intertwining the disciplines of faith and psychology to provide an approach to mental and emotional health that pulls from biblical teachings. Practitioners of this style of counseling incorporate religious scripture and teachings to guide you through challenging life issues. When facing turbulent life events, integrating and strengthening your faith may be the missing piece in finding proper treatment. A Christian counselor can help you to navigate life’s challenges in ways that respect your faith."

WHat are the goals of christian counseling?

"Christian counseling can address many issues that may arise in your life, and in working with a faith-based therapist, you can heal while also turning towards your faith in a time of need. In therapy, you will work with your therapist on identifying the problems that you’d like to address and discussing your desired outcomes."

what is the difference?

"One of the main differences, and what you can expect when you attend Christian counseling sessions, is the use of a broad range of materials and resources, including prayer, scripture, affirmation, and bible study. Like other therapists, Christian counselors understand the importance of your mental and emotional health and the symptoms which may lead to diagnosing a problem. With the additional focus on your spiritual health and your personal relationship with God, those who practice Christian counseling believe that with therapy, your personal problems, mental concerns, and emotional instability can be replaced with increased self-worth and a sense of spiritual fulfillment."
